Element-based interpolation and coarse-grid selection in algebraic multigrid

The knowledge of individual finite element stiffness matrices can be exploited for constructing superior prolongation in Algebraic MultiGrid (AMG) methods, addressing non-M matrices, in particular. However, element-based methods rely on some mechanism for generating coarse element matrices.

This talk comments on element agglomeration and the basic principles of AMGe and spectral AMGe. Furthermore, a specific algorithm for computing artificial element matrices to be used in element-based AMG (AMGe) is proposed.
