awarded the 2011 Hong Kong Mathematical Society Best Thesis Award for his high-quality and original research during his PhD study under the supervision of Prof. Jun Zou at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Dr. Christoph Schwab was awarded the ERC Advanced Grant,
AdG, by the European Research Council for his research project
"Sparse Tensor Approximations of High-Dimensional and stochastic
Partial Differential Equations".
16 projects have been
granted in mathematics in total in 2009. With 3 approved AdG's in
2009 the mathematics department of ETH is the institution with
the highest number of grants approved. Switzerland was the most
successful country in mathematics in this call, as it received 4
grants.
