Functional equations are relations between data of the unknown function at different arguments (such as in delay differential equations). Typically, functional equations have many solutions. Uniqueness may sometimes be achieved by means of smoothness and monotonicity conditions. In specific examples solutions in the form of (often semiconvergent) series or explicit expressions may be found. More complicated cases include the problem of invariant manifolds of a given mapping, where fixed-point techniques are being applied.
