Under usual assumptions a singularly perturbed ODE admits a highly attractive invariant manifold and the dynamics of the system is essentially described by the dynamics of the system restricted to the manifold. The invariant manifold may be approximated numerically in an efficient way. Under certain assumptions a dissipative PDE admits an inertial manifold which means that the dynamics of the PDE is essentially described by the dynamics of a (finite dimensional) ODE. Numerical methods for approximating inertial manifolds are investigated.
